Biotin , or vitamin B7, contributes to normal hair, skin and mucous membranes. Biotin is also known as as vitamin H and it belongs to water-soluble vitamins and is necessary for the body. Biotin helps the body process dietary carbohydrates, fats and proteins. According to EFSA, biotin has a positive effect on energy-producing metabolism and normal food metabolism, as well as the normal functioning of the nervous system.

Good dietary sources of biotin are e.g. egg yolk, liver, grain products and yeast. The bacterial strain of a healthy intestine is also able to form Biotin itself. As a water-soluble vitamin, Biotin is not stored in the body, but excess biotin leaves the body with urine.

Biotin is especially used to support hair health. A biotin supplement may have positive effects on hair growth, if the background is too little intake of biotin.
