Acacia fiber (gum arabic) is low-viscosity, soluble prebiotic fiber, which does not swell in liquid and whose fermentation proceeds slowly throughout the large intestine– for this reason it has been studied well tolerated and bifidogen (increases beneficial gut bacteria).

Keep the basic instructions in mind (see page), but start with a smaller amount and add slowly. When fiber is added,drink enough water so that the fiber passes through the intestines comfortably and reduces the risk of gas/bloating.

Don't take fiber supplement closest to oral medications with, because the fiber can slows/reduces absorption. Usually keep about 2 hours interval before/after the medicine (ask your pharmacist/caregiver for instructions).

Acacia fiber mixes well in water or smoothies and not hicken like many other fibers. Mix first to a small amount of water and then add the rest of the liquid; a shaker/blender helps to prevent lumps.

In IBS Tolerance to additional fiber is individual. In studies low-viscosity Soluble fibers (such as gum arabic) are often well tolerated, but still start carefully and monitor how you feel. In clinical studies, acacia fiber has been reported to good tolerability and prebiotic effects.
